Puncture Points - a fusion of energy and art in the Western Cape

Gulfstream is proud to be supporting Puncture Points, an inter-disciplinary art project that explores the intersection of energy and everyday life at the Western Cape. Commissioned by Burgan Cape Terminals, who are currently constructing a 118.000m3 petrol and diesel storage facility in Cape Town harbour, the project traces energy flows and investigates how the nuanced relationship creates synergies between energy and the everyday.

The Puncture Points project will provide a platform for local, independent artists, designers and art initiatives from various areas in the Western Cape to show their work to a broad audience and connect to the local and international art as well as business society.

The outcome of the project will be an exhibition that will take place during the opening of the Burgan Cape Terminals Q2 2017.

St Theresa’s Primary School, Welcome Estate, Cape Town

Gulfstream understands the value of education and that potential can be awakened through nurturing and a balanced lifestyle, particularly through sport. As a result, St Theresa’s Primary School was elected as beneficiary of Gulfstream’s CSI initiative for 2012. The funds were used for much needed classroom maintenance, with the balance going towards the purchase of cricket equipment.

Echoing the sentiments of Nelson Mandela that, “Sport has the power to change the world,” Gulfstream aspires to play an active role in The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and cement its commitment to the upliftment of communities through meaningful sports-related contributions.

Mandela Day Initiative, Johannesburg

In 2013, with Nelson Mandela ailing in a nearby hospital, the Gulfstream team decided to bring a bit of joy to some deserving people in and around the area. A few staff members were designated to buy 100 Kentucky combo lunches for work seekers who weren’t able to find employment that day. Recipients were grateful for what they received, with many singing “Happy Birthday Tata Madiba” as they received their food.

Dorah’s Ark, Roodepoort, Johannesburg

Situated in Roodepoort, Siyabonga Dorah's Ark was founded by Dorah Mazibuko in 1996. A place of safety and refuge for orphaned and abandoned children, Dorah’s Ark provides a home to approximately 31 children. As Gulfstream Energy’s CSI initiative for 2013, Dorah’s Ark received funds to purchase school uniforms and other essential materials for 21 children of school-going age. “Gulfstream’s contribution could not have come at a better time,” says Mama Dorah.
