Read full storyGulfstream’s first mining venture saw an investment in on-site infrastructure to supply Vedanta’s Black Mountain Mine in Gamsberg in 2015.
From small beginnings, as the mine established itself, Gulfstream has implemented a complete vendor managed inventory (VMI) solution, where it manages the mine volume demands, installations and logistics chain to a point where we currently dispense up to 60 000 litres of diesel per day whilst taking delivery of 78 000 litres on a daily basis. This, together with a fully integrated fuel management system to manage the consignment stock, ensures that mining operations are kept going on a 24 hour basis.
Vedanta has since extended Gulfstream’s contract for the supply of fuel to Black Mountain mine as well as awarded the contract to supply Deeps, an underground mine focused on the excavation of zinc, lead, silver and copper.
Vedanta’s strong production has seen Gulfstream’s volume grow significantly since supply commenced at Black Mountain mine in 2015. With the completion of a permanent storage and refuelling infrastructure, the facility will have a storage capacity of 466 000 litres of fuel and be able to refuel heavy mining vehicles as well as light vehicles simultaneously.
“The positive growth at Black Mountain mine and Deeps has enabled the finalisation of our permanent installation on-site, which is supported by a team of five permanent Gulfstream staff. We’re extremely proud of this achievement,” says Earl Sampson, deputy CEO, Gulfstream Energy.
